Son La Provincial Industrial Development Planning in a Sustainable Direction: Promoting Potential, Creating Momentum for Breakthrough
(en.sonla.gov.vn) In the journey of socio-economic development, Son La Province is gradually exploiting local potential and strengths to plan and develop the industry in a sustainable direction. Focusing on investing in the infrastructure of industrial parks and clusters and attracting industrial production projects associated with advantages in renewable energy and agricultural products, Son La is gradually forming a green, modern industry associated with environmental protection and improving peoples lives.

Taking advantage of renewable energy to develop clean industry

With mountainous terrain interspersed with dense river and stream systems, Son La possesses substantial potential for developing renewable energy, especially hydropower. So far, the province has 60 large and small hydropower projects, including 57 medium and small hydroelectric plant projects with a total capacity of more than 3,790 MW. Effective exploitation of hydropower resources contributes to ensuring national energy security, creating jobs for thousands of workers, and bringing in more than 2,000 billion VND in local budget revenue yearly.

Hydropower projects are not only built in an environmentally friendly direction but are also associated with the development of transport infrastructure, resettlement, and livelihoods for people in the reservoir area. This clearly demonstrates the orientation of industrial development attached to the sustainable development of Son La province.

Developing the processing industry - Leverage to enhance Son La agricultural products

As one of the major agricultural production centers in the northern mountainous region, Son La identifies the agricultural processing industry as one of the key sectors to the value of agricultural products and improve the rural economy.

Currently, the province has 34 industrial-scale agricultural processing facilities and about 1,000 small-scale industrial and handicraft production facilities. The key processing industries include Tea, coffee, cassava starch, sugar, milk, cement, etc. Many products processed from plums, mangoes, bananas, longans, macadamia, vermicelli, coffee, and seafood, etc, have reached domestic and foreign markets, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products and stabilizing output and income for people.

Along with the expansion of scale, agricultural processing facilities in Son La have gradually applied modern and advanced technology in production, preservation, and packaging. This improves product quality and meets the increasingly high demands of the export market.

Methodical planning of industrial zones and clusters associated with environmental protection

To ensure the orientation of sustainable industrial development, Son La province pays special attention to planning work one step ahead. According to the Son La Provincial Planning for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the province will have 05 industrial zones.

Of which, the period 2021-2030 prioritizes the development of 02 key industrial parks:

• Mai Son Industrial Park with a scale of 150 hectares. At present, phase I has completed essential infrastructure items on an area of 63.7 hectares that has been empty.

• Van Ho Industrial Park, with a scale of 240 hectares identified as the key economic zone in the South of the province. The province is actively calling for investors to build and operate the infrastructure of this industrial park, aiming to form a large-scale industrial service center.

In parallel with the development of industrial parks, Son La also plans to develop 13 industrial clusters by 2030, distributed in districts and cities such as Thuan Chau, Van Ho, Yen Chau, Mai Son, Phu Yen, Bac Yen, Song Ma, Muong La, Quynh Nhai, etc. In the vision period to 2050, the province will continue to expand 06 new industrial clusters, with a total area of hundreds of hectares. The planning and development of industrial parks and clusters are all linked by Son La province with sustainable criteria, ensuring environmental factors, waste treatment, connecting traffic infrastructure, and harmony with the lives of surrounding residents.

Towards a green, circular, and efficient industry

Planning for sustainable industrial development does not stop at building infrastructure or attracting investment; it also involves selecting industries suitable for a green and circular development orientation. Son La province prioritizes low-emission, environmentally friendly, high-value-added industries and efficient use of natural resources.

In the coming time, the province will continue to promote improving the investment environment, developing high-quality human resources, and supporting enterprises in technological innovation and digital transformation in industrial production. At the same time, it will improve the effectiveness of coordination between levels and sectors in implementing planning and monitoring compliance with sustainable development criteria.

With a methodical approach and strategic vision, Son La is gradually realizing the goal of becoming a green industrial center of the Northern Midlands and Mountains, making a crucial contribution to the country's economic development in a sustainable direction.
